PRAGMATIC; ANALYTICAL.

Extremely logical, Nanao's intelligence does not go unnoticed by others. She is an excellent strategist, which is a skill that comes in handy given her profession. She prefers to think before acting, analyzing every situation to the best of her ability. She has a great love of reading & will take any opportunity to absorb more knowledge. Her mind is sharp, but her tongue may be even sharper.

She has a hard time maintaining relationships due to her slightly distant demeanor--preferring to stick to work rather than take time off & relax. She is often called a workaholic, something she denies even though she is more than often found in her office. Despite all of this, Nanao is a surprisingly good listener & tends to give rather good advice when she is called upon. She does manage to have a softer side when it comes down to it, often displaying it to those she holds dear.

She is often seen hunting if not chasing her captain down when he neglects his duties. His teasing towards her often results in a firm smack from a fan or a book she has on her person. Despite all of the arguing & bickering she gives towards him, Nanao is extremely loyal and holds a high amount of respect for her captain.

DIVINE SWORD.

Unlike many other zanpakutō, Shinken Hakkyōken ( 神剣•八鏡剣, Divine Sword, Eight Mirror Sword ) is a blade that is passed down through the generations of the Ise Clan. It is a holy sword used by the Shinto family, which are in charge of rights & rituals.

It takes the form of an ornate, medium-sized bladeless sword with a flat end. The "blade" is decorated with four inlaid diamonds. Instead of a tsuba, there is a ornate band guard covering an inch of the blade with tassels hanging from either side of it. The handle of Shinken Hakkyōken is only somewhat shorter than the "blade", & possesses two tassels attached to the ring at its end.

Shinken Hakkyōken's ability is not completely understood--but it has the ability to take in the power of a god & disperse that power into eight different directions. Though in its sword form it lacks a blade, this ability to disperse a god's energy turns it into a very deadly weapon. Nanao uses that energy to her own advantage--reflecting back destructive blows & harming the one who projected them at her.

A blow from Shinken Hakkyōken results in the energy being dispersed all at once, giving it the ability to "cut" it's opponent. The limit to its ability has yet to be seen--even completely destroying a Quincy in his Vollständig form.

While it has quite a mighty power, Shinken Hakkyōken can be called somewhat unstable. Its reflective ability does protect Nanao--if she is careful. Nanao may end up harming herself if she is not careful with how she wields her zanpakutō.

ABILITIES

• Kidō Expert: Not only can she perform any level spell without incantation, Nanao can also create her own form of Kidō--as seen with her display of Hakudan Keppeki.
• Shunpo Expert: Initially, Nanao is only proficient enough in Shunpo to keep up with most lieutenant-level Shinigami. When Shunpo masters Shunsui Kyōraku & Jūshirō Ukitake were fleeing Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto, she was able to keep up with both captains, though she was exhausted from struggling to keep up after a while. However, by the time that the Gotei 13 invades Wahrwelt, Nanao improves her Shunpo skill to the point where she can keep up with her captain's speed without tiring, something which Shunsui compliments and praises her for.
